Project Goal: Radu will create a comprehensive database on corporate and government business practices in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. He will train journalists to use that powerful new tool to expose corruption. He also will strengthen the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism and other investigative reporting centers in the region. His Fellowship begins in May 2008.
Paul Radu is project coordinator and co-founder of the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism. In 2004, he received the Knight International Press Fellowship Award for Excellence in Journalism. He was an Alfred Friendly Press Fellow based at the San Antonio Express-News for six months in 2001. A graduate of West University in Timisoara, Romania, Radu began his journalism career as an investigative reporter for Realitatea newspaper in Timisoara. He also worked as an investigative reporter at Evenimentul Zilei, a national newspaper based in Bucharest, and later headed the newspaper’s investigative department. Radu also has worked for BBC News Night, ABC News 20/20, NBC, CBS, and other news organizations. He is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism. In addition to his native Romanian, he is fluent in English and conversant in Spanish, French and Italian.
